Martha, Martha

A few weeks ago, the Gospel text for the Sunday was the story of Jesus visit to Mary and Martha. This was one of the texts that captured me.

But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary.[b] Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

It is easy for me to become so engrossed in doing the work of God that I neglect spending time with God. I worry so much about getting things done that I forget to spend time in the bible.

Now I can easily defend myself since I am doing good work. The things we deal with every day affect people’s lives. It is important work. But, so was the work that Martha was doing. Someone needed to prepare the meal if they were going to eat. The truth is I have always been the person that gets things done.

I do not think that Jesus is telling us not to take care of things. Rather, He is telling us to get our priorities straight. Are we taking the time to connect with God? I am reminded of the verse from Paul that tells us if we do everything for others, but we don’t have Love we are nothing.

God is Love.

I hope you can find some time to connect with God. To be and listen for God’s voice.

God loves you and wants to be with you.
