I have much artist appreciation and little artistic skill. But every day I am surrounded by gifted people who share their skills with the world. For many of them it is how they support their families.

We have gone over two years without guests on the reservation. Since COVID exploded on the world the tribe closed the borders to groups. This has both helped the people and hurt them. Tourism is a major source of income for the people. In a typical immersion thousands of dollars are brought into the community through Cultural Guide Fees, Art purchases, and money for the Job Corp employees’ wages.

We are hopeful of having groups this summer.

In the meantime, the artists still need to eat. To pay their bills and to heat their house.
