There is something peaceful about native funerals.
They have their own rhythm. Their own pace. They last for days. The actual services never start at their scheduled time. It is often starting as much as 2 to 3 hours late.
As an outsider I use to get frustrated by the delay.
Recently, I did a funeral for a young man. I found peace. Instead of getting upset, I went and sat by the fire. The sun was out, a light breeze and the fire felt nice.
We started late because we were waiting for a key family member. And THAT is worth the delay. Funerals are not for clocks. They are for families.
Why are we in a hurry?
So I sat by the fire, relaxed and sipped coffee. I waited. I gave the family time to grieve. I was on their schedule and it was beautiful.
God has welcomed the loved one. God loves us.
